Braiding

Fabric woven on an inkle loomEquipment for weaving braids and narrow wares. Starting with the portable and economical tablet weaving cards or luceting kit, the weaver can advance to learn inkle weaving and kumihimo techniques. There are two choices of Marudai, a Schacht Inkle Loom and the Ashford Inklette loom, tablet weaving cards in both leather and laminated plastic, plus the Ziggy Rytka's Luceting Kit.

Woven braids can be used as fastenings, as edging, for lacing or for stringing beads, and fabric woven on an inkle loom can be used to make belts or straps, to add decorative edges to cuffs or collars, or the woven bands can be stitched along their length to create widths of fabric strong enough for soft furnishings or outdoor clothing.  Find out more about Yarns, Knitting and Weaving >
